Berlin: Target of an arson attack on the car of an employee of the Greek Embassy

A car of an employee of the Greek Embassy in Berlin was attacked in the early hours of the morning. The attack caused material damage. At 2.30 local time, passers-by saw the burning car and alerted the fire brigade, a spokesman for the Berlin Police Department told ERT.

The car was completely burnt down, at least in the front part. The car, a Mitsubishi with diplomatic plates belonging to an employee of the Greek Embassy in Berlin, was parked near the historic Zionskirche in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. The investigation is being conducted on suspicion of arson. The perpetrators remain unknown and there is no indication of motive.

„The possibility that there may be political motives for the act cannot be ruled out at this time,“ the police spokeswoman said, which is why the police’s State Protection Directorate has taken over the investigation. The Greek Embassy in Berlin is in contact with the police and is awaiting the results of the investigation.

It should be noted that about a year and a half ago a car of an employee of the Greek Embassy in Berlin was set on fire again. During the crisis in the previous decade, there had been repeated attacks by the separatist-anti-authoritarian spectrum against targets of the Greek diplomatic authorities in Berlin
